The Arc of Atlantic County is recognizing the important role direct support professionals (DSP) play in empowering individuals to reach their full potential during Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, which runs September 11-17, 2022.

The 200 DSPs who work at The Arc of Atlantic County are the heart of what we do. From help with daily activities and life skills, to vocational and independent living supports, our dedicated and compassionate DSPs are cheerleaders, job coaches, cooks, drivers, advocates, and sometimes, family, to the individuals they support.

“Their commitment to helping others live full and happy lives is building an inclusive community where everyone feels valuable and represented,” said Scott Hennis, CEO, The Arc of Atlantic County. “This week, and every day, we are grateful to our direct support professionals and for the life-changing support they provide to the individuals and families we serve.”

The week-long celebration will include daily prize giveaways from local businesses, including WOLF Fitness, The Crab Trap, TacocaT – Margate, Tony Beef, Mike’s Pasta House, Johnson’s Popcorn, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa – Somers Point and more. The community is also encouraged to share photos, videos and expressions of gratitude by posting to a virtual recognition board. A link to the Kudoboard can be found at www.thearcatlantic.org or www.facebook.com/thearcatlantic.

The celebration will culminate at The Arc’s Day Habilitation program, located at 6550 Delilah Road, Suite 101, Egg Harbor Township, on Friday, September 16, at 10 a.m. as Kaylee McGuire, Deputy Commissioner for Aging and Disability Services; Jonathan Seifried, Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Developmental Disabilities; and Thomas Baffuto, Executive Director of The Arc of New Jersey, present a Proclamation in recognition of the staff’s work. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the facilities and program, engage with participants and speak with DSPs about their work.

As The Arc of Atlantic County continues to grow, we are looking for special people to join our caring and committed team. Employment details can be found at thearcatlantic.org/careers.
