Students ages 13-18 will be working with film composer, concert pianist, and professional musician Jerry Compere as the very first artist in residence for Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City. Classes in music composition, production, singing, and more will start the week of Sept. 11.

The Boys & Girls Club is seeking donations to fund the instruments and equipment needed for this program. Please contact Sharon D’Angio at sdangios@acbgc.org for more information.

“We are elated beyond measure to have someone of Mr. Compere’s caliber and talent to impart and engage our members,” stated Dr. Charles A Wallace II, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City.

“At this stage of my career of over 25 years of performing, producing, orchestrating and teaching music education, my focus is to continue to help the next generation discover, develop and maximize their musical talents in ways they never imagined,” said Compere. “I want to equip them to take up space and take advantage of opportunities using their creative skills and abilities. I am honored to be able to carry out this vision in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City.”

Compere brings over 25 years of performing and producing experience to the Club. At the age of 14, he won first place in the European International Piano Competition, where he competed against 384 other pianists. He is an alumnus of Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, NJ, where he earned his BA in music education with a principal study in piano performance/pedagogy. Compere has served as a professor’s assistant to Richard Alston at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City for the Gifted Young and undergraduate students’ program. Compere is also an award-winning composer of the 2021 Peabody Award for his film score Cops and Robbers currently on the Netflix streaming platform. He has also played for many artists such as Lauren Hill, Wye Clef Jean, Wayman Tisdale, Genuine, Tye Tribbett, Bradd Marquis Sings Sam Cooke and many more.
