This bill would limit application of DEP rules concerning shellfish habitat for certain dredging projects. Historically, it is extremely difficult for marinas to get new DEP dredging permits. The South Jersey coastal areas rely heavily on tourism-related economic activity. Boating and marine commerce are a significant part of that activity.
Passage of this bill would certainly facilitate and improve our marina waterways. It would also serve to provide full commercial utilization of small marinas and allow homeowners to enjoy full access to their docks and adjacent waterways.

It is particularly important that there be no limitations on the number of slips so that smaller facilities can exist and improve their access for recreational boaters.

This bill, supported by the Greater Atlantic City Chamber, was signed by Governor Christie Monday, August 7, 2017, as submitted.
