AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s (ARMC’s) Mainland and City campuses have earned an “A” Spring Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. This national distinction recognizes AtlantiCare’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent, nonprofit, national watchdog organization that upholds the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. It assigns an “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country. Grades are based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, and systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. The new grades primarily reflect performance during the height of the pandemic.

“We all play a role in protecting our patients,” said Brian Acunto, D.O., EJD, medical safety officer, ARMC. “We celebrate and thank our staff and providers for their continued focus on ensuring we care for our community in a safe environment.”

“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But ARMC’s campuses received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible.”

“Safety is one of AtlantiCare’s core values,” said Larisa Goganzer, MSN, RN, chief operating officer, ARMC. “We appreciate our team’s steadfast commitment to upholding this value as together we make a difference in health and healing, one person at a time.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
