Superstorm Sandy left more perceptual damage than physical damage in Atlantic City as prospective tourists assumed the worst.  In an effort to bring people back and show prospective visitors that the city is open for business, the Atlantic City Airshow “Thunder Over the Boardwalk” took place on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 instead of its usual August date.

“To have people back in June is a great way to start the summer,” said Joe Kelly, president of the Greater Atlantic City Chamber. “Clearly, it’s a positive thing.”

While government sequestration and federal budget cuts had grounded nonessential military flights, the show’s organizers were able to put together a spectacle of the country’s best aerobatic performers and commercial acts.  The show even included a privately-owned Harrier jet that wowed the crowd when it hovered just a matter of feet in front of the beach.

The Greater Atlantic City Chamber and its show partners are grateful for the many sponsors who have continued to help in the production of this FREE show each year.
